I’m not listening to what you say,
I’m hearing only what you don’t say
‘Cause that’s the real you
That’s the you, you cannot change
That’s the blueprint of your soul.
Did you invent yourself along life’s road?
Become another you, was it just for show?
Now none can tell, or see, the real man
That now before them stands
This shadow, this other self.
But some can see and some can tell
Those close, perceive the real you
Better than you will ever know
Those unsaid words by actions show
The shape that rests beneath.
Beneath and between the lines
On the foundation of the mind
The actual ‘id’, your other self
Proclaimed through secrets
That you thought you did not show
That other ‘life’ you live but do not lead
Those parallel never touching lines
Have lead many to deceit,
But the ‘Real You’ lies in between the lines
And for those that ‘see’ it is not discreet
