Absurd

A meeting at a crossroads
Peppered with stop signs,
We recognized a kinship,
Two strangers’ paths converged.
In sharing of the sidewalk
Our conversation grew,
Two friends together walking
In passionate dispute.
...Until
Forgetting how it started,
Our understanding dulled,
We lost all common sense,
Not reaching common ground,
Both turning loud and deaf.
Exhausted from circling 'round
Each other’s point of view
And fuming at a standstill.
Decisions rashly made,
You hurried right,
And I turned left.
Our paths diverged for good.
We chose different streets
On our walk of life.
Our backpacks full and tied
With anger and regret.
Your face on the horizon
I never saw again.

Thus friendships end,
With nothing else to blame
But an absurd argument.

I lost some friends that way too.

@Robert L. Martin unfortunately it's not uncommon. Thank you for visiting, Robert :-)

Sad when friendships or love affairs end in this way. An inventive write, and an enjoyable read!

@Robert Haigh thank you for stopping by :-)
