Elegies for Sister Satan: Fifth Elegy

Oh, body, where are you going,
body of the earth, lost
double, lost copy of the body
mute body of yesterday
in tomorrow’s shredded cloth?

Oh, body, where are you going
in the fog of the body
in the mist of thought
in the body of another
known and not?

Oh, body, have you watched
the Dioskouroi dance
as one body in two
on the quantum tips of fire
while an ensorcelled earth spins below?

How many languages, how many limbs,
are scattered along the roads
of this earth? How many sounds
meeting their anti-sounds?
How many books burning

to light the way?
How many pure believers
to shatter the icons
of the pure believers
while the ensorcelled earth spins

on a turtle’s back?
Our jaws churn to emit a song
that will retune the body,
return the body, dear silent earth,
gone where?
