Reed And Stone

When the wind blows, you follow,
Taking your mind, perhaps bent to hit the water; the shallows.
Fearing the tempests that are around you,
Cast about without, hope of rescue.

The wind picks itself up and does not care,
Laying waste or helping it does not bear.
Why does the reed follow the wind.
Is it not alone?
Tossed about, it does not want to be a stone.

A stone can be alone or with many of it’s own, despite the wind,
Time passes over and over, does not care where it’s been.
The wind pushes it tempests and clouds; that may rain,
The stone stays bounded, weathered yet remains.

So why allow yourself to be reed?
Weathered faster and losing it’s head and stalk,
rarely with any deeds.
Though the stone takes more time to pass on,
It remains, alone,
yet not bothered,
For the stone is the foundation of its own.
