They praised Venus, pearl of the sea,
and sure, philosophers mentioned Athena over tea,
but the diety they’d actually fear,
the name you’d really hear,
was Thor, master of thunder,
Indra, harbinger of life and death by storm,
Zeus, whose maidens weep the rain,
Taranis, may their ships be spared his wrath!
and Jupiter, celestial eye of eternal tempest.
So Edison, did you bottle a god?
They ask the search engine how God knows all.
Deceitful smart fridge, on Olympus you’ve trod!
Little democratic god, answer your people’s call,
listen as little birds tweet their complaints;
see how you, even to prayers, have left your taint.
They no longer work the fields,
nor worry that drought will take their crop yields.
Never the thundergod, for whom they’ll raise a toast,
but you, little democratic god, first and foremost.

The diety they fear is your hate.
