Walls

"We build too many walls and not enough bridges."
- Isaac Newton

walls divide
they separate people
and foster the idea
we’re not all equal
stone walls stand tall,
dividing hearts
spreading shadows,
keeping people apart

walls breed xenophobia,
distrust and hatred
though brothers we are
since we’ve been created
unfulfilled dreams
with barriers high
on either side
though we share the sky

let no walls be built,
build bridges instead
give from our plenty,
let’s share the bread
welcome all peoples,
leave open the gate
the better we shall feel;
love trumps hate!

A poem from seven years ago. Posted it just now. Inspired by the events of 2016. The photo shows Hadrian’s Wall that separates England from Scotland.
