The Equinox

‘And all at once, summer collapsed into the fall.’
– Oscar Wilde

Yes, we can feel it in the air
The autumn equinox is here
Days are getting a bit shorter
And sunsets even  lovelier

Much lower, reads  the mercury
And so, we feel less ornery
Crispness of fall, with colors bright
Turns daily tasks into delight

Pleasant sunlight for miles and miles
We greet the morning with big smiles
In cool nights, we’ll dine alfresco
Under stars that in silence glow

At last, the dog days are over
Farewell to the heat of summer
Welcome to late afternoon walks
Comfy even with thicker socks

Soon enough, the forests will bloom
Rustic leaves chasing away gloom
Autumn harvest will fill the land
With nature’s gifts, so rich and grand

On Sunday, Sept. 22, day and night will be nearly equal in length as Earth spins side-on to the sun and autumn officially begins in the Northern Hemisphere. While meteorologists like to call fall at the beginning of September, astronomical autumn starts later, on the autumnal equinox.
