Ignorance

All those smiles that came and went,
Can you believe it’s over?
We spent our time in fairy tales,
Wishing on four-leaf clovers.

I know deep inside,
We all knew it was coming.
We were foolish to ignore it–
You can’t stop a drummer from drumming.

But, can you blame a guy?
Who tries to stop time?
Those are locked gates,
Walls too slick to climb.

Yet, tried we did.
Overwhelming was our belief,
We could’ve been desperate.
Anything to escape grief.

But, the day still came.
Goodbyes had to be said.
Hearts were torn
By every single tear shed.

We were naïve to believe–
Believe that life would be kind.
That time would slow down,
And fate could be redefined.

Thoughts swarm our minds,
As I’m hours away from home.
We tried, with no prevail,
And now the future is unknown.

We aren’t lonely, nor lost,
But relentlessly confused.
So desperate and gullible were we,
That our ability to hope is bruised.

Yet, somehow, we still stand together,
Our voices ringing in harmony.
We’re still trying to believe–
Believe in our innocent purity.
