I Cry a Lot These Days
Like NFL Hall-of-Famer Dick Vermeil
I’m a Scorpio
So, like Coach Vermeil
I also tend to cry whenever I speak in public
About the things that matter most to me
For Coach Vermeil that has long been
The players and coaches he competed with and against
And whom he is always really talking about
Whenever he cries while seemingly talking about football
It’s funny, I used to care deeply about football
Playing it and watching it
And talking about playing and watching it
With anybody who’d listen
But now my passion for football is fading away
Even as my connection to people steadily grows
As I’ve lately come to realize
I don’t need football anymore
To talk to people about my real passion:
Watching them come alive
Which in turn makes me want to cry
As we talk about the deepest love of all–
A people’s love for their God
Who makes it all possible
