Ink Blotter

The Quiet Hours

Night has fallen
Once again
Leaving me alone
With my thoughts
Their incessant prattle
Driving me mad
Screaming obscenities
As all my worries
Flood my head
The heaviness seeping in
As the darkness descends
And my carefully constructed walls
Come caving in
By the nefarious shadows
In my head
A victim of this quiet hour
I have no choice
But to stay and fight
Battling the demons
Determined to make me
Their next feast
As the hour
Slowly drifts into the next
The hands on the clock
Marking the end of each round
While my body yearns
For a reprieve
Needing sleep
But knowing
What would greet me
On the other side
I fight my heavy eyes
Wishing this disease
Didn’t call my name
Each night
The quiet hours ahead
Far too loud
My cries piercing the silence
While I struggle not to hide
As the shadows descend
Slicing through the dark
Weighing me down
As I struggle for breathe
Sleep evading my every attempt
Just as It does every night
Even my exhaustion
No match for
My insomnia
Which know no boundaries
