Ink Blotter

Reflection

The radiant crescent moon illuminates the surface of the lake.
Transforming the clear azure water into a violet glow beneath the blackened sky.
The gentle evening breeze sending little ripples through the smooth surface.

I stand above my reflection, watching the cascading rain distort my face as the tiny drops plummet into the water disappearing in the murky depth.

A stranger stares back at me, her delicate features broken into pieces, a frown etched into her fallen face as she confronts herself.

Only half hidden in the dark, exposed beneath the glowing night, she refuses to hide beneath the shadows of the nearby oaks swaying in the storm, as her tears glisten off her porcelain skin.

I stare into her probing eyes and wonder who she is, this woman, who tells the truths I could never speak aloud.

This stranger, who refuses to be kept hidden from the world, that stares back.
